Our Philosophy

At Cheeky Clouds, we are committed to providing an environment without limits—one that fosters confidence, courage, and a strong sense of self in every child. We value the individuality of each child, prioritise presence and mindfulness, and embrace every moment spent learning, exploring, and growing alongside children. Our high-quality early learning environment actively protects, promotes and upholds children’s rights, wellbeing and learning. We recognise children as rights-holders and place their safety, voice and agency at the centre of all decisions, practices and relationships.

Children’s rights to learning and play

Children are recognised as capable, competent and active participants in their learning. We value children as knowledgeable contributors whose ideas, experiences and perspectives are respected and meaningfully included. Children are supported to participate in decisions that affect them in ways that are appropriate to their age and development, empowering them to take an active role in shaping their learning.

We uphold children’s right to play as a fundamental right and as a central context for learning and development. Play is viewed as a child-led and meaningful process through which children explore ideas, express emotions, negotiate relationships and make sense of their world. Children are provided with extended periods of uninterrupted, self-initiated and open-ended play. Educators act as facilitators, guiding learning through sustained shared conversations, intentional questioning and reflective interactions that extend thinking while preserving children’s ownership of their play.

Children’s wellbeing is foundational to all aspects of our practice and is inseparable from learning and development. We acknowledge wellbeing as holistic, encompassing physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions. Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships provide the foundation for children to feel safe, develop a sense of belonging and build resilience.

We support children’s holistic development across interconnected domains, including physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional and creative development. Educators intentionally provide opportunities that build communication, self-regulation, independence, problem-solving and confidence. Children are encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings and preferences, contributing to decisions that affect their learning and daily experiences. We recognise that children develop at different rates and in different ways, and our approach is inclusive, strengths-based and responsive to individual needs and abilities.

Wellbeing and Holistic Development

Inclusion, Equity and Respect

Cheeky Clouds is committed to inclusive practice that promotes equity, dignity and respect for all children and families. We value diversity in all its forms, including culture, language, gender identity and expression, family composition, ability, neurodiversity, socio-economic background and lived experience. Learning environments are intentionally created to ensure every child feels safe, affirmed and supported to be their authentic self.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land and recognise their continuing connection to land, culture and community. Indigenous perspectives are embedded authentically and respectfully within everyday practice.

We value strong, respectful and collaborative partnerships with families, recognising them as children’s first teachers and essential contributors to children’s learning and wellbeing. We are committed to open communication, mutual trust and shared decision-making.

Families’ knowledge of their children, cultural identities, values and aspirations are actively sought and respected. Through ongoing collaboration and consultation, we work together to support each child’s learning, development, sense of belonging and empowerment. Children’s safety and wellbeing are embedded naturally within the way we engage, plan and implement programs, ensuring that children are listened to, involved and supported at all times.
